Sunshine & Swimwear (Sort Of): A Chilly Shoot with B Fresh Gear in St. Petersburg, Florida

Swimwear Branding Shoot in St. Petersburg with Denver’s B Fresh Gear

In January, I had the chance to photograph another fun and vibrant campaign for one of my longtime clients, B Fresh Gear — a retro-inspired clothing brand based in Denver, Colorado. This particular swimwear shoot took place in sunny (but surprisingly cold) St. Petersburg, Florida, where the wind was whipping and the temps barely hit 40°. Not exactly your typical beach day, but the crew showed up with amazing energy — and the results were worth it.

A Longtime Creative Partnership

I first met the B Fresh Gear team back in 2020, and since then, we've built a strong creative relationship. I’ve photographed their clothing campaigns in Denver, Charleston, and now St. Pete — each shoot full of color, character, and quick thinking to adapt to the weather, lighting, or whatever else the day throws our way.

Behind the Scenes in St. Pete

The day we shot this campaign was colder than anyone expected — about 40 degrees and windy enough to turn any beach towel into a kite. But Stephanie, David, and Ness (our amazing models) didn’t flinch. Everyone was focused on making it fun, even with chattering teeth and sideways hair.

We worked fast, using quick setups and planned sequences to make the most of the conditions. Between each setup, models threw on jackets and wrapped up in blankets. When you look at the final images, you’d never guess we were all freezing — that’s the magic of great styling, solid teamwork, and a lot of trust between the brand, the models, and the photographer.

In the earliest and coldest part of the morning we knocked out some of the warmer options that B Fresh sells. Like The Mickey Neon Orange Beanie that is modeled here by Steph. She is also wearing the Wave Gang Sun Blockers.

A Strong Visual Identity for Swimwear & Lifestyle Brands

One of the most important things in any brand shoot — especially for lifestyle and swimwear companies — is consistency in energy and tone. B Fresh Gear has a very clear brand identity: retro, irreverent, and bold. That kind of style requires more than just good lighting and pretty backdrops — it takes chemistry with the models, a plan for movement, and an understanding of what the brand wants to feel like to their customers.

That’s what I bring to shoots like this — I make sure the brand’s voice is coming through in every frame, whether it’s through color, composition, or candid moments.
