Jewelry Photography with Heart: Capturing Annie Cavalero’s Gemstone Collection

When I got the call to photograph a collection of handcrafted gemstone jewelry, I knew it was going to be something special. Annie Cavalero — an incredibly creative jewelry designer and comedy writer-actor — reached out after we were connected through her husband, Tony Cavalero, who plays Keefe on HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones, a show I also had the pleasure of working on. Annie was looking for someone to photograph her vibrant and meaningful jewelry line, and I was honored to take on the project.

A Brand with Heart, Humor, and Heirlooms

Annie’s brand is as bold and heartfelt as the pieces she creates. Inspired by the memory of playing dress-up in her grandmother’s fine jewelry, Annie’s designs are crafted to spark joy and evoke strength — meant to be worn in bathrobes or ballgowns, by women who want to feel powerful, seen, and unforgettable.

Each piece is made with hand-selected gemstones and a sense of playfulness that reflects Annie’s background in both comedy and craftsmanship. Her jewelry is wearable dopamine — fun, functional, and full of personality. Photographing that kind of energy was both a creative challenge and a joy.

Shipping from LA to Tampa: A Remote Collaboration Done Right

Although Annie is based in Los Angeles, she shipped her full inventory to my studio in Tampa, Florida so I could shoot everything remotely. From the beginning, she was clear and collaborative. She provided a detailed shot list, and we communicated throughout the process via email and text to make sure we were aligned on every detail.

This kind of remote workflow is something I’ve refined over the years, and it works beautifully for e-commerce product photography. Whether you're based in Florida or across the country, I make the process easy, flexible, and highly professional from start to finish.

Photography that Reflects a Story

Annie wanted the photos to reflect her brand’s spirit — bold, playful, empowering. So we didn’t just shoot flat lay basics. We incorporated fun little elements from the pieces themselves, highlighted the textures of the stones, and leaned into color and composition to echo the emotion behind each design.

From clean white backgrounds to more styled, editorial compositions, the final gallery gave her a versatile mix of images to use across her website, Etsy shop, and social media.
